Engagement Style Shoot | OK Photography Summit

Well it has been a couple of months since this styled shoot, so it is about time I get around to blogging about it! ha

I always sign up for things like this excitedly and then dread it when it gets closer because I am a little bit of an introvert, a lot of home body and just tired on a Saturday morning that could be spent at home. But, things like this is good for me. It is good to get out of my comfort zone, meet new people and see the new trends in Oklahoma weddings.

I arrived at the venue, with enough time to sit in my car and watch a few people walk in like a creeper. I do this for a couple of reasons— 1. Figure out what door to go in so at least I don’t have to worry about that. And, 2. Walk in alone so that I don’t have any awkward interactions first thing! haha

I walked in about 10 minutes early, got checked in and used the restroom and only had to awkwardly stand in the masses for about 3 minutes waiting for the shoots to start… all done by design of course.

I also stood there long enough to realize that I am now one of the “older” people in attendance. The good news— I look like I am 12 years old and about 2 inches tall, so no one thinks I am infact older. (Thanks Papa!) haha One of the 20 somethings asked me how long I had been shooting and if I was still in college. Oh bless you young one!

They broke us into small groups and thankfully, luckily, by the grace of the styled shoot organizers, my small group was great. About half way through, I summoned the courage to talk to one of the attendees. It turnes out that her little brother was one of my 4-H students when I worked at Caddo County Extension 7-8 years ago! Small world!

We had a lot of laughs about her brother’s shenanigans and then bonded over similar awkward experiences, cows and trying to sneak pictures of the other styled shoot models! Then I met, another girl (disclaimer: she was Kaci’s cousin) and then three of us went to lunch. That is right— I made TWO friends that day!

I said big things were going to happen in 2020, but who knew those big things would include making friends. Because making friends as an adult is hard. It is even harder to make friends that are photographers that also have similar interest and backgrounds!

I don’t know why I was dreading the workshop day, but it was totally worth stepping outside my comfort zone!

Thank you, Kaci and Haylie, for being my friend! Hopefully we get to shoot together again soon!
