Wedding Details Tips

I LOVE love shooting details because it allows me a few minutes to get away from the hustle of wedding days and get to focus on the little things that mean the most to the bride.

From the rings, to the flowers to the bracelet with her grandparents signatures engraved on them... it truly is those little things that make each bride's day unique and special-- and those are my favorite things!

I always tell my brides to really think about things that they would like to incorporate into their detail photos. Whether it is their new, fancy perfume bottle or bible that their grandma carried down the isle, it is important to me that these photos are just as meaningful to the bride as any other photo.

I always ask my bride to gather her details in one bag or box and set them somewhere in the brides room so I can just grab the bag and get to work.

This cuts down on a few things--

  1. lost time gathering all the items

  2. minimize the risk of forgetting something

  3. keeps me from bugging asking where items are located while she is getting hair and make up done

Here is a quick list of detail goodies I ask my brides to gather:

  • Bride's ring and wedding band

  • Groom's wedding band

  • Veil, hair clips, other hair pieces

  • Jewelry

    • necklace

    • bracelets

    • other rings

    • earrings

  • Invitation, envelope, save-the-dates, direction cards, etc.

  • Wedding program

  • Shoes

  • Perfume bottle

  • Ring boxes

  • Garter

  • Bouquet

  • Vow books, cards, etc.

  • Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue

  • Other items that are meaningful to them

    • Grandma or Grandpa's bible

    • Sorority pin

    • College ring

    • Other jewelry from parents, husband, etc.

    • Married monogram

I have a small stash of goodies I bring with me that is filled with ribbon, lace, sequins, etc. to add in some color or in case there isn't a good place to lay out that detail items. I also try to snag a flower or two from the decor or ask the florist for a few extras, so I can use those for the detail photos to really tie everything together perfectly.

I have many, many favorite detail pictures, but I have narrowed it down to about 10 to share with you today!

This was a fun wedding and I loved these shows! I spent probably a little too much time taking pictures including these shoes, but it is what it is.

This is one of my favorites because it is so simple.

This is possibly one of my favorite wedding details of all time. Cali's Maid of Honor (I believe) gave this bracelet to her with the signatures of her grandma and grandpa engraved on it to wear on her wedding day. What a special way to keep them near you on your day!

The key to a southern girls heart! Loved finding this monogram cap on my way out the door-- especially since I know the bride LOVES her some monograms!

Glitter shoes? Yes, please!

Details are normally centered around the bride, but I am consciously trying to do a detail shot for grooms because they are a crucial part of a wedding day, right?

I have a few tips for groom detail shots coming up on the blog next, but for now here is a quick detail list cheat sheet to screen shot so you don't forget anything!
