Hiring a Wedding Day Coordinator

Stacy James is the owner of Wild Honey Weddings, a wedding planning and wedding day coordination service. Stacy and I have became friends over the last year and I am so excited to shoot my third wedding with her and her team at the end of this month!

I shared this for the first time last year, but I think hiring a wedding day coordinator is beneficial for so many reasons! Here are a few of Stacy’s top things to look for when hiring a wedding day coordinator.

Hiring a Wedding Day Coordinator

You have a lot of choices to make regarding your wedding day. From the date, time, and location for your nuptials to the outfits, invitations, and color scheme. Not to mention the dozen or so vendors you may need to make your wedding vision a reality. It’s a lot of work!

Everything is usually smooth sailing until a few weeks before the wedding. At this point your focus should shift from planning mode to, “I’m marrying the love of my life” mode. However, all those well-planned details still have to come together. And that’s exactly where a wedding day coordinator comes in.

The date will vary by coordinator, but sometime during the month before the wedding, they will sit down with you and go over every detail of your wedding weekend from the rehearsal on through tear down after the reception. They will create a thorough timeline for the wedding day and confirm details with your other wedding vendors. Most importantly, they will execute those logistics on the wedding day so you, your friends, and your family can relax and actually enjoy your big day! No worrying about mismatched linens, late deliveries, or flower placement—a wedding day coordinator has you covered!

When hiring a wedding day coordinator, here are a few things to look for:

1)      Someone whose personality works well with yours. This may sound obvious, but you want to enjoy working with your wedding coordinator. You want to walk out of their office with a smile on your face.

2)      Someone who is available. Of course, you want someone who is free on your wedding date, but I mean more than that. You want someone who is available for you to ask questions as often as you need. Things can pop up unexpectedly—you want someone who is there for you.

3)      Someone who makes you feel heard. Your wedding day is precious! You want to work with someone who listens to your ideas, gives you feedback, and catches your vision for the day.

The best part of a wedding day coordinator? The price tag. You get the assurance of a successful wedding day without breaking the bank. Since they will be working with you for less time than a traditional wedding planner, their services are budget friendly.
